Balatonfured-Csopak
Pronunciation:
Location and Topography: Balatonfured-Csopak forms one contiguous area on the North shore at the Eastern end of the Balaton Lake. The area is centered on the towns of Balatonfured, Balatonmadi and includes the Tihany peninsula.
History: This area has always been associated with wine growing and being close to Budapest has always been popular with tourists. The North shore of the Balaton was traditionally the playground of the gentry and this still holds true today. Sadly the Communist regimes wer particularly lax in the enforcement of planning controls and many of the smallholdings created under land the reforms of the 1940s became the holiday homes of the 1970s. Much prime wine growing land has been lost.
Soil: Typically loamy soils.

Climate:

High sunshine figures and the warming effects of Lake Balaton form a microclimate in Balatonfured-Csopak. This is seen most clearly on the Tihany peninsula which juts out into the lake and is noticably warmer.
