The Azar Neszmely wine region consists of four seperate areas located in a crescent around the North of the city of Tatabanya. to the Northwest of Budapest.
They region centers on the towns of Kisber, Tata and Esztergom in the North. The Northeastern part af the region runs close to the River Danube, which also forms the border with Slovakia to the North. |
| History: |
Whilst i t was only relatively recently that Azar Neszmely was returned to the status of Wine Region, the area has a long history. The famous Csakvar Estates of the Esterhazy family were located in Aszar and the wines of Neszmély were held in high regard by the great Hungarian statesman István Széchenyi. |
